What a miracle bed; I only wish I found this bed YEARS ago. My lab/pit mix is anywhere from 15-17 yrs old (adopted from a shelter 12 yrs ago, at age 3-5 according to vets). I’ve been through a number of beds, not just for my dog but the other household dogs; we’ve had everything from $20 beds up to $300 Orvis & Big Barker beds. He has end-stage bladder cancer and has bad arthritis which has made his hind 2 legs cross over one another; over the last week, he has developed severe incontinence, the kind that can seep through 2 male dog bands.I needed a completely waterproof bed (not water repellent), washable, and also one that would be comfortable for his sore joints, while still portable enough to move from living room (where he likes to be during the daytime) to the bedroom (where he sleeps).Honestly, I kept my expectations in check because this was a tall order for a dog at the end-of-life stage. But this is the miracle bed that meets all those requirements. My dog climbed into this right away and snoozed hard through the night. The 1st day, he had some droplets fall out of his diaper and I saw them bead on top of the bed so I thought “cool” and wiped them right off. The 2nd night, he peed (a LOT), covering half the bed in urine. I braced myself for an extensive morning of cleaning. But I removed the cover and everything was completely dry. The urine only remained on the top of outer cover, not even penetrating its own inner layer. Washing was a breeze and I used a waterproof dog blanket (another miracle find on Amazon) to top the bed while waiting for the cover to dry.What can I say? This will be my dog’s last bed and I can only hope other people and their pet companions get to enjoy sooner rather than later.At first, I was pretty disappointed with this purchase. Upon taking it out of the packaging, it was super flat and had a weird kris. I thought for sure that I would have to return this product. I tossed it in the dryer for about 20 minutes and allowed it some time to fluff up. Now this product is fluffy as ever and it fits in our large crate perfectly. My dog is already interested in this product and it looks way better than his crate did before.The bed is firm and suitable for my post surgery dog but she absolutely hate it because how firm it is. The other dogs don’t prefer it either. However, it does provide the support needed for my dog to go through recovery it’s just going to take time for get to adjust to liking it more.When this bed was delivered, it came in a tightly rolled sealed plastic that made me wonder about its size and especially its depth. It turns out the bed is a winner. My slightly arthritic 13-year-old Shiba/Corgi mix loves to sleep on it and prefers it to her other, bigger plush bed that was a lot more expensive. My doubts were quelled and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase.Quit throwing money away on cheap beds that you can't wash and only last until your furry friend wears out a divot big enough that they may as well be sleeping on the hard floor.Meet Trixie..... She is (and I'm not lying) 20 YEARS OLD!!! She is partially deaf and mostly blind and was also run over by a car breaking her back hips. She can walk but falls down a lot because of her injury.She recently moved in with me about 3 months ago and I've been trying my very best to make her comfortable. I decided to bite the bullet, spend the money, and get her something that she can find some peace and relief on that also looks nice. (Not a random pile of hand me down old blankets on top of a Walmart bed.)I can tell just by looking that there is no pressure on any of her joints when She lays on this bed. Her bones can finally rest!!! I am McLovin' the zipper cover that comes on and off in an L shape. There's no trying to stuff a large piece of foam into some little zipper cover or flat cover casing with this one.The top is almost like a Sherpa fleece that will come in handy during the cold months. I decided to go with the larger bed because it's four inches of foam and honestly, I probably could have got away with purchasing the 3-in because the foam is very high quality and there's no sinking.Go ahead and hit the button, if you are looking to provide ultimate comfort for your pet, young or geriatric, you have hit the target with this one!!!I went through 3 other beds more expensive than this as my oldest Tibetan Spaniel could not easily step up the extra inch. I then found this bed which is easier for small dogs to step up to. At first neither dog would get on it. Now they're good with it.My 16 year old husky sleeps better with this bed. He has had trouble sleeping lately because he can't get comfy due to his hips hurting. This bed helps ease the pain associated with hip displacia so he sleeps better. I would definitely recommend especially if you have an aging dog that has arthritis or displacia.I gave this 4 stars due to the bumps of the egg crate top. It took my two dogs a few nights to get used to this bed. I hope it is as easy to wash as it seems. Time will tell.
